The trailing twelve-month return with the most recent month dropped. Skipping the latest month is the standard academic construction, because very recent moves tend to reverse and would otherwise pollute the signal. Each name is scored as a percentile against the whole equity universe, computed nightly before this screen runs, not as a raw return.
Which filters does a name have to clear before it is ranked?
Four, all applied before the ranking: the price has to sit above a 200-day moving average that is itself rising, within 20% of the 52-week high, and within 20% of the 30-day high, and the name has to clear a $5M average daily dollar-volume floor so the list stays tradeable. Momentum is only ranked among names already in a confirmed uptrend.
