The report date is the day the company released its results: its earnings-release filing with the SEC (an 8-K, or a 6-K for a foreign issuer), checked against the company's own press release. The reaction is the move over the one trading session that first reflects the release: a release before the open runs from the previous close to that day's close, a release after the close from that day's close to the next session's close, and a release during the session or on a day the market is shut from the last close before it to the first close after it. Where we find no release we show the date the quarterly report was filed, mark it, and show no reaction, because a filing can trail the release by days or weeks. For a fiscal fourth quarter with no release found, the date shown is the filing of the annual report, marked as filed, again with no reaction. Where we hold no usable date at all we estimate one from the period end, mark it, and again show no reaction. The bar a quarter is scored against is the consensus we recorded the night before the release, where our record reaches back that far; otherwise it is the last consensus we hold before the date shown, marked unpinned. Surprise = (actual − estimate) ÷ |estimate|. The next report date is the date the company announced in its own release, where it has published one; otherwise it is the data provider's expected date, shown as an expectation. The estimate beside it is the consensus for that quarter, matched by its period end, against the actual for the same quarter a year earlier; where no quarterly consensus is published we show the full-year consensus on its own labelled line against the last full year's actual, never against a single quarter. Where neither the company nor the data provider has a date, we estimate one from the company's own calendar: the day it reported the same quarter a year earlier, moved by 52 weeks, and only when its report dates have moved by a week or less from one year to the next.
